In recognition of the 40th Anniversary of Carl Sandburg College, the CSC Foundation established in April 2006 a new fundraising event, the Founders Dinner and a new recognition award, the Founders Circle.   The 2nd annual Founders Dinner was held on Saturday, April 21, 2007, in the Dr. Donald G. Crist Student Center at Carl Sandburg College.  Mr. Fred Visel, Adjunct Instructor of CSC in History and College Historian, served as the Keynote Speaker.

Proceeds from the Founders Dinner will be distributed to CSC students receiving the Founders Scholarship.  This annual scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student with a minimum 2.0 GPA.  Students must have 15 cumulative credit hours to be eligible to apply.  The scholarship will be awarded to in-district students only.  Students must demonstrate community service and leadership abilities.

The Founders Circle Award will serve to recognize outstanding service to CSC by alumni and friends.  The recipients of the 2007 Founders Circle award included:  Dr. Wilbur Pillsbury, Dr. Benjamin Shawver*, and Mr. Tom West.
 

     Founders Circle Inductees

2007 Inductees:

Dr. Wilbur Pillsbury
Dr. Pillsbury served on the first Citizenīs Committee, which was started in 1960, for the formation of a junior college in the Knox and Warren County area.  Dr. Pillsbury was a professor at Knox College for over 40 years and served as their Dean of Students from 1953-1968.  The Knox College community strongly supported a junior college and Dr. Pillsbury helped encourage and guide the initial committee in the establishment of Knox-Warren Junior College, which later was named Carl Sandburg College.

Dr. Benjamin Shawver*
Dr. Shawver was a member of the Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees from 1966-1970.  He was a Professor of Education and Chemistry at Monmouth College, and head of the Education Department there from 1961-1974.  Dr. Shawver served as a key leader from the Monmouth area who supported the creation of a junior college locally, and he was a visible proponent on the Monmouth College campus for Carl Sandburg College. 

Mr. Tom West
Mr. West served as Chairman of the Citizenīs Committee for the creation of a new campus from 1970- 1971.  In this capacity, Mr. West worked to help pass a bond referendum to build the College campus along South Lake Storey Road.  He was also a member of the Board of Trustees, serving from 1971- 1975.  Mr. West continued his connection to Carl Sandburg College after his term on the Board, and has served as the College attorney from 1985 - present.
